The 3a test focuses on off-road manoeuvring, and Olivia handled it with skill and confidence. With this success under her belt, she’s now ready to progress to the next stage—the 3b on-road driving assessment.
What Is the C1 3a Test?
The C1 3a test is the first of two practical modules required to gain a C1 licence. It is designed to evaluate a driver’s ability to safely and accurately control a vehicle in an off-road environment. The test includes:

A controlled reverse manoeuvre into a designated bay

Judgement of space and turning radius

Effective use of mirrors and observation

Accurate positioning and safe control of the vehicle throughout
This module is essential for preparing drivers to manage larger vehicles confidently in real-world situations—particularly in tight or restricted spaces such as yards, depots, and delivery zones.
