The 3b test is the final on-road assessment for the Category C licence, which qualifies drivers to operate rigid HGVs over 7.5 tonnes. What Does the Cat C 3b Test Involve?
The Category C 3b test is designed to evaluate a candidate’s ability to drive a rigid HGV safely and competently in real-world traffic conditions. It includes:
🚛 Use of mirrors and observation techniques
🚛 Speed control and road positioning
🚛 Awareness of other road users and hazards
🚛 Roundabouts, junctions, and traffic management
🚛 10 minutes of independent driving
To pass, candidates must record no serious or dangerous faults and no more than 12 driving faults overall. Sharmaake achieved a confident, controlled drive from start to finish—earning a well-deserved pass first time.
