We’re off to a fantastic start this week at our Wetherby Training Centre, with a big well done to Richard, who successfully passed his Category CE 3a test! This achievement marks the first major step on his journey to becoming a fully qualified Class 1 HGV driver, and we’re proud to see him kicking things off with such a strong result.

What Is the CE 3a Test?
The Category CE 3a test is the off-road reversing and coupling assessment required for drivers upgrading from Category C to CE. It focuses on manoeuvring an articulated lorry with precision and control, including:
🚛 Controlled reverse into a designated bay
🚛 Safe uncoupling and recoupling of a trailer
🚛 Use of mirrors, observation, and effective control
🚛 Understanding safety checks and trailer connection procedures
Richard showed great technical awareness and a calm, steady approach during the assessment—key qualities for any future Class 1 driver. With this pass in the bag, he’s now ready to move forward and prepare for the on-road 3b test.
