We recently ran a day of 4×4 familiarisation training for some of the Red Cross’s drivers at one of our venues in Cumbria.
Covering vehicle checks, basic 4×4 mechanical details and lots of practical training in how to drive off-road, the course was designed to give an introduction to how to drive in low-traction situations and give candidates some experience of risk assessing routes.
Candidates got to find out what their Land Rover Defender and Discoverys were capable of, as well as the limitations of what should be done in a working environment.
The course was designed around the requirements of the Red Cross, through discussions about what they wanted the day to achieve. We sent 3 trainers up and everyone got a chance to get used to both of the vehicles.
